Layers of Life

This is an ongoing project called Layers of Life that I teach in residencies at high schools. The students shoot images of texture and patterns, then portraiture. We discuss the layers of our lives- the different people we are when we're with our parents, siblings, friends, coworkers, etc. The students then write a poem about those different layers of personality and then we bring their layers of textures and patterns together into complex self portraits. It's a very cool project.
